(Jan 12, 2023) – Happy New Year! It’s Day 38 of my concussion recovery journey and I can’t wait to get back on the court with my teammates. I turned 17 last week and my orthopedic doctor’s gift to me was the news that I’m still not ready for full contact action. I also have to continue my cognitive physical therapy sessions until my reaction time is fully restored.  Man, concussions are no joke!

MY VALUE TO THE TEAM:  January is when most of our conference region games take place to determine where we rank going into February tournament time. I was told last week that my value to the team equals an average positive difference of about 31 points per game, which is crazy to me.  But, now I feel like my team’s 4-game losing streak wouldn’t be that way if I was playing. It’s frustrating!

MY RECOVERY PLAN: Since I got back to Atlanta from spending Christmas in Kansas City (MO), my doctor has approved my weekly schedule below:

  • physical therapy 3x a week to recover from the concussion
  • Pilates class 1 night a week to stay flexible
  • no contact basketball workouts 4x a week working on offensive & defensive skills
  • weightroom 3x a week to get stronger and build physical agility

The road back to playing full contact basketball has been a slow grind, but I am confident that I will be back on the court again by the end of January.
