Q1: Why do you think you can play college basketball? (watch video @ 0:12 – 1:19)
A1: Honestly, any coach will recruit me if they need a PG who is skilled and relentless. I never stop competing and working on my full game – defense and offense. Things that set me apart from other recruits are, (1) I’m realistic about my game. I have attended and watched a lot of college games at different levels, so I fully understand where I would be the right fit. (2) I have been told by former and current college guards that I am good enough to play college ball, and I’ve been working on things they’ve said I should work on. (3) I consistently play well against guards of every size who are college recruits. I would be a valuable asset to any college program that wants an efficient and high IQ point guard who refuses to be outworked.
Q2: What are your top 3 strengths as a player? (See Video @ 1:20 – 2:34)
A2: I’m a true point guard so my top 3 strengths are that (1) I’m a vocal leader on and off the court. (2) I’m a high IQ playmaker that loves to make my teammates better, so I focus on having a great Assist to Turnover ratio while being an efficient shooter. Third, (3) I’m a tough perimeter defender who believes defense wins championships.
Q3: What are your main weaknesses and how are you going to improve? (See Video @ 2:35 – 3:41)
A3: I don’t see them as weaknesses. They’re just things I need to work on, or can’t control. One (1) is scoring in the paint. Up until my junior year I always had growing pains in my knees and feet, so I couldn’t really jump or attack the paint as much. That forced me to be really good on the perimeter. Second (2) is my height. In my opinion the only real disadvantage I’ve experienced with my size is that I’m not a good post defender. But, I honestly don’t know too many 6’3″ guards who are good post defenders either. Since I can’t control my height, I’m building my body up strength wise, and it’s helped keep me from being pushed around by bigger guards. It’s also helped my jumping ability, and keeping my balance when I attack the paint. Every day I’m improving at getting two feet in the paint to either score or find open teammates.
Q4: What non-basketball related things make you recruit worthy? (See Video @ 3:42 – 5:22)
A4: First, (1) I am a high-academic student with a 3.8 GPA and my goal is to get a minimum 24 ACT score. Secondly, (2) I have logged over 60 hours of community service hours as a member of my school’s BETA Club, House Student Council, and Sports Ministry. Third, (3) I love writing poetry and am a member of my school’s Writer’s Guild. Four, (4) I am a leader in my school’s Spanish Club. Lastly, (5) I am a girl’s flag football coach at my high school.
